How To Prevent and/or Reduce Global Warming
Ten Basic Tips to Help Prevent Global Warming
- Change a light: Replacing a regular light bulb with a fluorescent one saves 150 pounds of carbon dioxide each year.
- Drive Less: You can choose much more environmental healthy ways to get somewhere such as walking, biking, carpooling, taking mass transportations, and trip train. These things can help to reduce gas consumption and one pound of carbon dioxide for each mile you don't drive.
- Recycle More and Buy Recycled: You can save up to 2, 400 pounds of carbon dioxide each year if you recycle half of your household waste. By recycling and buying products with recycled content you also save energy, resources, and landfill space.
- Check Your Tires: If you have properly fitted tires that means good gas mileage. For each gallon of gas saved, 20 pounds of carbon dioxide are also never produced.
- Use Less Hot Water: Using cold water for your wash saves 500 pounds of carbon dioxide a year and using a low flow shower head reduces 350 pounds of carbon dioxide. You can insulate your hot water tank and keep its temperature below or at 120.
- Avoid Products with a lot of Packaging: When you purchase products with the least amount of packaging, not only do you save money, but you are helping the environment. Reducing your garbage by 10% reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 1,200 pounds.
- Adjust your Thermostat: Keeping your thermostat at 68 degrees in the winter and 78 degrees in the summer not only helps with your energy bills, but it can reduce carbon dioxide emissions as well. Two degrees cooler in the winter and two degrees warmer in the summer can mean a reduction of 2, 000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.
- Plant a Tree: A single tree can absorb one ton of carbon dioxide over its lifetime.
- Turn Off Electronic Devices when not in Use: Simply turning off your T.V, VCR, computer, and other electronic devices can save each household thousands of pounds of carbon dioxide each year.
- Stay Informed: Use the Earth 911 website to stay informed about environmental issues.
Some Things We Can Do
- Reduce Electricity Usage Around The Home: The largest source of greenhouse gases is electric power generation. The average home actually contributes more to Global Warming than the average car.
To reduce the amount of electricity used in our homes:
- Improve Vehicle Fuel Efficiency: The second largest source of greenhouse gases is transportation. Motor vehicles are responsible for about a third of all carbon dioxide emissions in the U.S. and Canada.
To Reduce This You Can:
- Conserve Energy In The Home and Yard: Yard maintenance contributes significantly to greenhouse emissions.
Something For Everyone
- "Power Off Caution Sticker" on PC Display: Use "Power Off" stickers to remind staff or yourself to switch off you PC when it is not in use.
- Monitoring Air Conditioners: Monitor your air conditioners to make sure you are maintaining the right temperature.
- Enlighting Saving Energy: Put posters out to keep people aware of what's happening to the world and give them suggestions of what they can do to help.
- Replacement of Air Conditioners: Changing to energy saving can save about 30 to 40% against old models.
- Control of Lighting: If your lights have no need of being on switch them off. Also switch to energy saving lights.

Global warming is the rise in temperature of the earth. The temperature changes due to the green house gases such as carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide and methane trap or capture light and heat from the sun. The Greenhouse Gasses are sent to the earth’s atmosphere which increases the temperature. This change in temperature can kill people, animals and plants because they weren’t able to adapt to the different temperature.
What Is the Greenhouse Effect?
The greenhouse effect is when the earth’s temperature rises because of the contamination of the sun’s heat and light. For example this happens in a car. The heat can get into the car but it can’t come out. This effect can be good or bad.
Good: keeps the temperature on earth hospitable (allowing people to live on earth) without it the world would be freezing like at night when there is not heat from the sun.
Bad: the gasses might build over time cause plant, animals and people to die from the unusual heat. It will also limits our amounts of food because the plants wouldn’t have enough heat. It is all part of a chain. If the grass dies the cows will die of hunger and then so will we.
What are Greenhouse Gasses?
Greenhouse gasses are basically gasses that are trapped in the earth’s atmosphere. It then leads to the increase of temperature creating an inhospitable environment for plants, animals and people.
What Is Global Warming Doing To the Environment?
· Makes the sea level rise
· Oceans will cover low islands (animals lose their habitats and plants get washed away)
· Disruption of the animals food chain
· Creating warm water which can destroy the sea creatures and the algae
· Decreasing in sea creatures because of algae’s disappearance
· Destroying of huge amounts of forest
· Creating acid rain
· Drys up the land (sometimes it can start dry leaves on fire)
What causes Global Warming?
Electrical pollution
Burning fossil fuel
Oil and petroleum
Chemicals are sent to the air, sea and land

http://www.jamendo.com/en/tag/ambient/ I thought that this song was good for our topic because it reminds us of how beautiful the world is. It also makes us want to do something to help prevent global warming. Tell me what you think! Just go to the link above and click on Grace Vahalla : wire. Then click on the song "Fresh."

Global warming
Earths greatest poison,
It slowly destroys everything she has,
Until there is no more,
The world will be empty, a still, black darkness.
The people all scream in despair,
Souls of many people screaming,
And they all regret and say,
Why were we so lazy to throw our rubbish away?
People are suffering; the world is in chaos,
All this because the world is slowly dying.
Droughts, floods and many more,
Causing havoc on the earth.
If this destruction is not stopped, there will be no hope,
For our children and their children to come.
Do we want them sitting down,
Regretting the day they were born?
But there is still a glimmer of light.
Something that will change the world,
It is the action of the people,
The generation that cares for the earth.
As the wise men say,
Actions speak louder than words,
So why don’t you go outside pick up some trash,
And see the world change itself.
Now this is just a first draft of the poem and please feel free to comment and tell me of the changes I need to make. the picture will be coming soon.
This is my poem tell me what you think about the poem:
Message poem- global warming
(One person can not stop this issue, every one needs to help)
Why has this happened to me
Why has this come
I have done all in my part
I switch of the lights
And ride a bike
But why does the world
Still seem sad
After everything I’ve done
